Three Sisters

Three Sisters, the name of a retreat home designed by Cole Harris Architects, sits in rural Litchfield County. It was designed to mimic a 19th-century, colonial farmhouse.

This home sits on fourteen rolling acres in rural Litchfield County. It’s a unique, weekend retreat designed for a client who works in NYC, travels almost full time, and wanted a place to recharge her batteries. The property is deeded in such a way that the owner could only build on two of the fourteen acres. The rest is farmland and is still used to grow grasses for livestock feed.

A floor-to-ceiling, split-face, stone fireplace graces the airy, open-plan family room.

A secondary living space looks out into an aspen grove through large-paned windows.
A simple, understated, view of the modernist kitchen.
The entryway has a shiplap sided interior wall.
The modernist kitchen has a breakfast counter with an under-mounted farmhouse sink and slanted wood ceiling.
A view into the study with built-in bookshelves and cabinetry.
The view from the deck oversees 3 meadows separated by fine aspen trees.
A segregated master suite and guestrooms provide privacy for both guests and homeowners.
The first-floor study can be turned into a master bedroom because it opens into a full bathroom.
The master bathroom with a soaking tub has a direct line of sight across the meadows to a historic red barn.
This home is called Three Sisters because the building was deconstructed into three buildings: a standalone garage, a guestroom structure, and the main living quarters.
The Three Sisters home utilizes traditional materials of oak and a standing seam metal roof.
The living area includes the entry hall and is separated from the guest area by the pantry and half-covered porch.

The study off the living area is cornered with sliding, barn doors for privacy.

A butler pantry sits just off the modernist kitchen and includes a wet bar and wine cooler.
